Wide receiver Martavis Bryant, who has been an afterthought in the Steelers’ offense this season, reportedly has asked the team to trade him.
According to NFL Media, Bryant has requested a trade, and both his teammates and Steelers coaches know he’s not happy.

The Packers have already indicated Rodgers could miss the rest of the season, naturally leading to suggestions Green Bay may look to the open market for a quarterback, with former Dallas Cowboy and TV pundit Tony Romo and ex-San Francisco 49ers star Colin Kaepernick the obvious candidates were a team that is consistently in play-off contention look to sign a free agent.
But McCarthy moved quickly to scotch such talk, insisting that the offense of the 4-2 Packers will now be in the hands of backup Brett Hundley, a third-year fifth-round pick out of UCLA who led one touchdown drive in Rodgers’ stead.
Losing Aaron Rodgers speaks for itself, in my opinion he’s the best player in football, McCarthy said in his post-game media conference.
The issue will be prominent on this week’s agenda in New York, but the discussion among league and union officials, owners and players will focus on how else to approach social activism. The league is also expected to emphasize that the original message of Colin Kaepernick’s protest has become convoluted by this season’s movement, which has been more about a show of unity against President Trump than about police brutality.

If the D-backs win: Who starts Game 4? Game 1 starter Taijuan Walker lasted just one inning after giving up four runs. Zack Godley relieved him and threw 100 pitches in relief over five innings. So that would likely point to Patrick Corbin, since Walker’s start may still be too fresh in Torey Lovullo’s mind. Corbin had a weird year, pitching much better at home even though Chase Field is a good hitters’ park. He had a 3.15 ERA there and allowed just seven of his 26 home runs at home. One-year home/road splits are tricky, but Lovullo probably goes with Corbin if the D-backs remain alive.
If the Dodgers win: They sweep and head to their fifth National League Championship Series in 10 years. They’ll get to line up Clayton Kershaw in Game 1, which wasn’t the case in either 2013 or 2016 (he started Game 2 both years).
With that in mind, look for Cubs manager Joe Maddon to stack his lineup again with lefties, which probably means Jon Jay and Ben Zobrist at second base (or maybe he gives Ian Happ a start). Note the Cubs are carrying 14 position players, so that also gives Maddon more flexibility off the bench in case Baker brings in one of his lefty relievers.
The prediction: Arrieta is a bit of an unknown with his health, but this could be a game in which both managers have to go to the pens early. Maddon does have John Lackey in reserve. Look for a little more offense, but the Cubs use their home-field advantage to clinch the series with a 5-4 win. Yes, another one-run loss for the Nationals.
Fertitta: This is a really well-run team. Competitively, they do whatever they can to put a good basketball team on the floor every year. It has very good management, from [CEO Tad Brown] to [general manager Daryl Morey] to the head coach to [general counsel Rafael Stone] to PR. It’s kind of weird to walk into a situation where I don’t have to make any changes.
Broncos linebacker Von Miller doesn’t think Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. should be the highest-paid player in the league next season, he thinks he should be the highest-paid player in the history of the NFL.
He should be the highest-paid player ever, regardless of position, Miller told reporters on a conference call Wednesday (via ESPN). That’s just the type of player he is. It doesn’t matter if it’s quarterback, offensive line, receiver. It doesn’t matter. The type of impact that he has on the globe, the type of viewers that he brings — just him as a player. That makes up for him not playing quarterback. So, he’s a once in a lifetime player.
Beckham first became eligible for a contract extension this offseason, but he was not able to come to an agreement with the Giants. Before the season, Beckham also said he wanted to be the highest-paid player in the league but had to settle for just $1.8 million this season.

The Steelers have always done a great job of mixing the older guys with the younger guys and teaching them the way, and for whatever reason, there was some leadership lost after Brett Keisel left, after Troy Polamalu left and Casey Hampton and those guys, Ward added.
Ward, a 14-year NFL veteran, was always seen as a guy who would do anything for his team. He was known as much for his willingness to block as he was known for catching passes. Then guys like Bettis, who may not have been the fleetest of foot, would always fight for extra yards and get stronger deep in games. That was a lead teammates followed.

Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown is known as much for getting fined for end zone dances as winning reception titles and running back Le’Veon Bell held out for more money. Meanwhile, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has a checkered past and veteran linebacker James Harrison doesn’t start anymore.
President Donald Trump is suggesting the United States change its tax laws to punish organizations like the NFL if members are disrespecting the national anthem or flag.
Game Kids Josh Leivo Jersey A growing number of NFL players have chosen to kneel or sit during the playing of the anthem this season as a way to protest social injustice.
During a conference call with reporters Tuesday, NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said, As most of you know, the NFL gave up its tax exempt status in 2015. The idea that we receive a tax break is not true.
Young had 7 tackles, 2 sacks and 4 quarterback hurries in the first 4 games for the Bears this season.
An eight-year veteran, Young has been one of Chicago’s best pass-rushers since he joined the club in 2014. Young set a career high with 10 sacks in his first year in Chicago, and he signed an extension in the summer of 2016 after he switched from defensive end to outside linebacker to fit in the 3-4 defense used by veteran coordinator Vic Fangio.
Young, who is signed through 2018, is the fifth Bears starter to land on injured reserve. He joins wide receivers Cameron Meredith and Kevin White, safety Quintin Demps and inside linebacker Jerrell Freeman.
Another veteran outside linebacker, Lamarr Houston, was recently released off injured reserve after he got hurt in the final preseason game.

Youth Tyrann Mathieu Jersey The Cowboys have activated defensive end David Irving to the 53-man roster in order for him to play Sunday against the Green Bay Packers.
Jason McCourty Authentic Jersey Irving practiced for the first time Wednesday. During his suspension he was not allowed to have any contact with the team.
He was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after last year’s regular-season meeting against the Packers, recording a sack and forcing three fumbles in the Cowboys’ win at Lambeau Field.
Jacksonville’s 30-9 victory was keyed by back-to-back pick sixes in the third quarter.
With the Jags trailing 9-7 with about 6 minutes to go in the third, linebacker Telvin Smith intercepted Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and returned it 28 yards for the score. Six plays later, Barry Church took one back 28 yards for 6, and after the extra point, Jacksonville led, 20-9.
Both third quarter picks were intended for Antonio Brown.
His mobility has certainly improved from what it was when his knee was acutely painful and swollen following the noncontact injury he sustained on Monday night of the opening week of the season. Whether it is adequate to play four quarters of football remains unclear. Coach Mike Zimmer only would say of Bradford’s status for Monday night, We’ll see. This is the same (left) knee that has twice undergone an ACL reconstruction by Dr. James Andrews, who consulted with Bradford regarding this latest injury two weeks ago.
During the two-hour meeting, the players also noticed there was no consensus among owners about what to do. Each owner was dealing with the protest differently, and the differing approaches — and ideas — seemed to rile up themselves more than anything the players had said.
Alabama started running the ball more with Yeldon and Eddie Lacy and finally got on the board. Receiver Amari Cooper was a popular target on the next scoring drive, and by halftime the Crimson Tide were within six. Still, Saban wasn’t happy.
Nico Johnson: “Our game plan that week was to make Johnny a pocket passer. We didn’t want him getting outside and ripping and running and extending plays because that’s what he was great at. Well, we didn’t do that. So Saban, after seeing us frustrated on the sideline for not doing our job, he ripped into us. And Coach Smart said the same thing: ‘Just do your job. Just do your job.’ Because we weren’t. A lot of us weren’t doing our job and a couple players got pulled out because of that.”
Lacy began to pile up yardage in the third quarter and the Crimson Tide added a field goal to cut the A&M lead to three points. As day turned to night and the deficit shrunk, the home crowd fed off of it.
Texas A&M receivers coach David Beaty: “One of the biggest memories for me was just how electric that place was. It was unreal. That’s why you want to play college football, right there.”
The next A&M possession was two plays: a 42-yard Manziel toss down the right sideline to Swope and a 24-yard corner route to Malcome Kennedy for a touchdown to give the Aggies a 29-17 lead.
Colin Cowherd just went to war with sports fans in Philadelphia.
Youth James White Jersey Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith threw for 293 yards and a touchdown, while tight end Travis Kelce hauled in seven passes for 111 yards. Rookie running back Kareem Hunt added 101 yards on the ground for the Chiefs.
11:38 p.m.: Smith completes a 12-yard pass to Chris Conley. The ball pops out following the catch, but Conley is ruled down by contact before the fumble occurred. Following review, the play is confirmed and Kansas City has it at the Washington 24 with 27 seconds to go.
11:33 p.m.: Kansas City moves to the Washington 35 on just two plays. Smith completes a short pass to Charcandrick West, then follows with a 37-yard completion to Albert Wilson to put the Chiefs in field goal range.
What has gone right: Demarcus Lawrence is on pace to become the first Cowboys defender with double-digit sacks since DeMarcus Ware in 2012. Lawrence, who is in a contract year, leads the NFL with 7.5 sacks.
What has gone wrong: The Cowboys aren’t fielding the same caliber of rushing attack that helped pace last year’s 13-3 campaign. Ezekiel Elliott has gotten held to 85 yards or less in three straight games, giving him 135 fewer overall than he had through four games in 2016.
Youth Christopher Tanev Jersey What’s next: If the Cowboys are only at .500 with Elliott on the field, what happens if/when he isn’t? A court ruling is expected later this week that should determine whether Elliott must immediately begin serving a six-game personal conduct suspension, or whether a stay of the punishment continues.
Tom Brady’s relationship with and feelings about Donald Trump have been a source of speculation since before the 2016 presidential election.
With Trump at the forefront of the conversation around the NFL on Sunday after his criticism of the league’s players the previous two days, Brady weighed in via Instagram by expressing fellowship with his fellow players.
The Patriots will be perhaps the most closely watched team during Sunday’s national anthems. They were the first championship team to visit the Trump White House and owner Robert Kraft is a friend of the president’s — though he did issue a statement earlier Sunday expressing his disappointment in Trump’s recent comments.
Authentic Youth Vincent Rey Jersey Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers followed Brady’s Instagram post with a similar one that contained many of the same words.

Julius Peppers, Panthers defensive end: “I want to get one thing clear and I want to let you guys know that this wasn’t about disrespecting the military, the flag, police, first responders, none of that. It wasn’t about that. It was about me making a decision as a man on my two feet, and I wasn’t going to ask somebody else to do anything with me.
I just thought it was appropriate to stay in because we know what went on this week with the comments that were made by the president. I felt like he attacked our brothers, my brothers in the league, so I felt that it was appropriate to stand up with them and stay in the locker room.” Peppers was the only Panther who stayed in the locker room for the anthem.
Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones had himself a day on Sunday. Jones’ performance was indicative of the kinds of things this guy can do when he decides he just isn’t going to let anybody block him. Three sacks, two of them where he also caused a fumble, a game-changing interception, and a couple of other plays that ultimately didn’t count because of penalties. These are the kinds of days Pro Bowlers and All-Pros have, and Jones, who is only in his second year, keeps progressing like this he will certainly attain those kinds of honors one day soon.
Jones is a guy I’m very familiar with; I did an NFL draft breakdown of him when he was coming out of Mississippi State a couple of years ago. What I saw back then was a guy who was very talented and who had very good technique, but who was also just a tad bit lazy.
Nikita Kucherov Game Jersey Even with my problems with his motor back then, there simply was no denying his immense potential. This was a kid who could line up almost anywhere on the defensive line and not just look good, but dominant. So I wasn’t surprised at all that Jones flashed so much last year in his rookie season.
For the second week in a row, Italian Raiders kicker Giorgio Tavecchio impressed many members of the Shoe Crew by making his only attempt of the day and nailing six PATs in Oakland’s easy win over the Jets.
Manti Te’o Game Jersey The veteran coach isn’t the only man slated for an awkward reunion this weekend. The second Sunday of the 2017 season will pair up traded players with the teams that moved them, free agents with the clubs who allowed them to walk away, and spurned franchises with the assistant coaches who left for greener pastures.
It took another Taylor scramble before Buffalo finally called its second timeout, setting up fourth-and-11 at the 33 and a desperate heave near the end zone that bounced off Jones’ hands.
The Cincinnati Bengals are facing one of the better defenses in the NFL in the Houston Texans — that includes studs like J.J. Watt.
Late in the first half, Bengals offensive lineman Jake Fisher tripped Watt after getting beat by him to block him from Andy Dalton.
That’s not legal, but no penalty was called on the play. Fisher and the Bengals should have been penalized 10 yards for the infraction. Instead, the Bengals got a field goal to cut their deficit to 10-6 going into halftime.
If you’re going to get away with that type of stuff, you might as well try it against this particular defensive line. It wreaks havoc on NFL quarterbacks.
“However, in the Commissioner’s judgment, there has been no persuasive evidence presented on your behalf with respect to how (the accuser’s) obvious injuries were incurred other than conjecture based on the presence of some of her bruising, which pre-dates your arrival in Columbus on July 16, 2016,” the letter read.
In another incident reviewed by the NFL, Elliott was caught on video lifting up a woman’s top in public at a St. Patrick’s Day parade. Elliott was not charged or arrested, and the league said it wasn’t a factor in Elliott’s suspension. The NFL did, however, say in its letter to Elliott that the behavior was “inappropriate and disturbing, and reflected a lack of respect for women.”
Elliott’s accuser also filed an incident report against Elliott for simple battery with the Aventura (Fla.) Police Department in Feb. 2016. That case was suspended, and Elliott was not charged. The league did not consider that case in its investigation because it happened before he was in the NFL.
Why did Elliott get a six-game suspension when other players didn’t?
Six games is the baseline punishment for first-time offenders who commit domestic violence. This standard was established after the league botched its handling of the Rice situation.
