The Cubs’ bullpen had issues in the playoffs, producing a 4.52 ERA and 53 walks in just 10 games.
Morrow is the second pitcher to join the Cubs since last Thursday. Tyler Chatwood agreed to a three-year deal and will join the rotation. The Cubs are still after more arms as the winter meetings begin. Free-agent righty Alex Cobb has had the Cubs’ interest, though no deal is imminent.
Jurich pulled in far more than the $1.4 million base salary that ranked him among the highest-paid ADs in the nation. Including other compensation, he earned $5.3 million in 2016, which, as The Courier-Journal points out, was more than the budgets of the biology, English, history and math departments. Jurich and his wife have vacation homes in Clearwater Beach and in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
The Broncos are sitting at the bottom of the AFC West standings with a 3-9 record, but according to general manager John Elway, the team is not going to make any coaching changes during the season.
In a radio appearance on Orange & Blue 760, Elway acknowledged it has been a tough year for the Broncos and said he is “embarrassed” about the team’s performance this season.
“We’re gonna finish the season out and, you know, obviously we know the expectations of the Denver Broncos,” Elway said (via ESPN.com). “And this has been a tough year. It’s not what the Broncos are about.”
According to ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Cooper asked to try to practice Friday, and coaches thought he looked pretty good. Still, it was one day of light work, far different demands than four quarters of a game.
